Call for Presenters

The NLTA Music Special Interest Council invites music educators, music researchers and graduate students in music and/or education to submit a proposal for a workshop presentation at Resonate 2018, taking place in St. John’s, NL November 1-2, 2018.

Sessions run 45-50 minutes long and possible areas include but are not limited to band, choir, strings, orff, social justice in the music classroom, community music, technology in the music classroom, differentiated instruction, student growth and motivation and panel discussions.

We invite all interested educators to complete the application. We have limited spaces and will be looking for presenters covering a wide range of topics, especially those noted of areas of interest by our members.

Those selected to present will receive free registration to Resonate 2018.

Today is the big day!

Welcome to all our presenters, volunteers, performers, teachers, students, and all other attendees. Resonate 2017 is off to a wonderful start and we can't wait to share pictures and videos of the day on Twitter. Tag #ResonateNL so we can re-tweet you. Also keep an eye out for some Twitter and Facebook livestreams for those people who were not able to make it. Additionally, we will be adding recordings of all our sessions thanks to Jennifer Nakashima. Stay tuned for those in a few weeks!

Giveaways, Travel Grants, Sub List, oh my!

A reminder that conference registration is still open. Early bird deadline is September 30th. All the details can be found in the previous news post or in the pinned post on our FB page.

Travel Grants

This year the MSIC is pleased to be able to offer a limited number of travel subsidies to members living outside the metro area who are attending the conference. Applicants must be MSIC members and registered for the conference. Priority will be given to members more than 150km outside the metro region however everyone will be considered. The deadline for applications is September 30th and those receiving funding will be notified by October 10th.

Substitute List

We have complied an UNOFFICIAL list of music substitutes in Eastern NL. You can access it on our FB page or contact me (rebeccamcdonald1 @ nlesd) and I will forward you the link to the google doc. I have not recieved any information for substitutes in Central, Western, or Labrador - if I do, I will compile a list for those regions as well.

Basic Conference Details

Resonate 2017 is happening on Friday, October 27th, 2017 at the St John's Holiday Inn. Registration is expected to be completed prior to September 27th. As well, registration of specific sessions is mandatory and we will be checking registration lists at the door of each session. Early bird deadline is September 30th. Check-in is at 8:00am and sessions run from 8:45-3:30.

MSIC Professional Development Travel Fund

The MSIC Professional Development Travel fund is to assist members who are travelling to conferences and/or professional development opportunities over 250km from their residence. This grant can be combined with other travel grants such as those from the NLTA.

To be eligible for funding applicants must be an active member of the NLTA MSIC. All projects must focus on the professional development of educators.

Your continued membership is very important to us! You may not be aware that funding for councils from the NLTA is based directly on paid membership.
